DOG TRAINING
A&S Pet Care follows a training and handling philosophy aligned with current guidance from the American Veterinary Society of Animal Behavior (AVSAB). We are committed to science-based, force-free, and fear-free training practices that prioritize each pet’s emotional and physical well-being.
Our approach centers on positive reinforcement, thoughtful management, and clear communication to help dogs learn skills in a way that builds confidence, strengthens the human-animal bond, and supports long-term success.
We believe training should be about more than simply teaching a dog what not to do. Our goal is to help dogs develop skills that allow them to navigate everyday life with greater confidence, clarity, and success, while giving their people practical knowledge they can continue using long after a training session ends.
Meet the Trainer
Shannon is a lifelong animal behavior enthusiast with more than 10 years of experience working hands-on with behaviorally challenging animals. Her experience spans pet care, shelter environments, rescue, and hands-on work with dogs with a wide range of personalities, needs, and learning styles.
Her passion for training was shaped in large part by her own dog, Luna, whose journey taught Shannon just how transformative patience, understanding, and the right approach can be. Working through Luna’s challenges helped Shannon see firsthand that behavior is communication, and that when we take the time to understand what a dog is telling us, we can create meaningful change while building trust along the way.
That experience continues to influence Shannon’s training philosophy today. She believes effective dog training starts with understanding behavior, not simply changing it. Her approach is grounded in science-based, force-free training and focuses on positive reinforcement, clear communication, and building practical skills that dogs and their people can successfully use in everyday life.
As the co-founder of A&S Pet Care, Shannon has spent years getting to know dogs in their own homes and communities. She especially enjoys helping owners better understand why their dogs behave the way they do and giving them practical, achievable skills to create more successful routines.
Currently continuing her education through Karen Pryor Academy, Shannon is passionate about staying current with the science of animal learning and bringing that knowledge directly into her work with clients.
When she's not out with client pets, Shannon can usually be found with her two rescue dogs, Luna and Nova, who love trick training, home agility work, and trail hikes.
